Local LLM Recommendations
Would be interesting to be able to add a ollama instance and pick a model to be able to give something akin to Spotify Blend or DJ but all processed locally!
Play on other plex endpoint
I use Plexamp headless. Would be nice if I could use your app to send my music there, just like with the normal plex apps.
Local Server Access
I’m on the same network as my Plex - however I think currently I can only access it through the internet. I would prefer to just access it locally
Add option to hide menu sidebar completely
Gapless playback not working
macOS 26.5.1 Chromatix 0.6.0 (0.6.0) Plex Media Server A lot of my releases are gapless continuous DJ mixes, and it seems like Chromatix adds a few milliseconds of silence between each track when it plays the next, making it impossible to listen to them. The tracks are in FLAC 16-bit 44.1kHz format. I’ve tested the same tracks using the Plexamp MacOS app and can confirm the same tracks play gapless there.
Add global hotkey support
From Reddit: Is there a global hotkey support for Chromatix? I couldn't find anything yet. If there is not, please consider adding it to the Feature Requests? It would be great to be able to start/pause/skip tracks as I can do in Musicbee or other players.
Last.fm improvements
At present, managed accounts (such as those created by Plex Home) may not work with Last.fm scrobbling. It seems that only users listening from their own server can currently scrobble tracks.
Audiobookshelf integration
It would be cool to have access to the podcasts and audiobooks in your audiobookshelf server through chromatix
Pop out Player for Desktop
Similar to Spotify, a pop out player that can be shrunk to have just mini album art, track name and artist. When expanded, it shows larger album art, star rating, track name and artist.
Improved display of non-square album covers
It would be nice to either preserve the cover’s original aspect ratio or to avoid filling the entire placeholder as it does today.
Planned
17Committed and queued
Queue management
Add, edit and remove tracks from the play queue. This is a commonly requested feature. There’s a lot of different ways this could be done. I am inclined to make queue management behave in a similar fashion to Spotify. Queue management will require the implementation of various other UI features first, such as context menus and popup/modal windows, and a drag-and-drop interface for reordering items. This is planned, but I cannot provide an expected timeframe.
Display song lyrics
I use the “lyric” feature in Plexamp a lot. Would appreciate a similar “get lyrics button” that opens the lyrics up in a popup/sidebar of some sort. Cursory research shows that while Genius (by far the optimal source in my opinion) has a free API they do not offer any actual lyric content over it due to legal issues. However, there seem to be a number of maintained clients that fetch Genius lyrics by scraping the web page directly, such as https://github.com/zyrouge/node-genius-lyrics. Plex uses https://www.lyricfind.com/ but that costs money and the song availability, at least in Plexamp, is very substandard compared to Genius. Obviously when the implementation options are as problematic as they seem to be I would understand that this feature may not be feasible for the project. Maybe something like node-genius-lyrics could be implemented in the desktop version only, set to default as off depending on performance?
Allow rating songs with just 1 star
Instead of rating songs out of 5 stars, be able to to just “star” a song. This would essentially add the ability to like a song, without me having to actually rate it out of 5. This makes it easier for me to keep an updated “<3 Tracks” playlist. Plexamp has this feature. Maybe they just rate the song 5/5 behind the scenes and abstract it away from me the user.
Artist detail view
In addition to the recently added “track view” for artists, an alternative “detail view” is planned, with the intention of showing all tracks by an artist, broken up by album, as per the attached design mockup.
Home Screen
I would love a home screen where it gives you some quick options from your list of playlists, artist, recent uploads…etc. I think it would be nice as a landing page for opening the player. Thanks!
Add artist image/banner to full screen mode
As suggested here add an option to display the artist image/banner in full screen mode, similar to Spotify.
Quick navigation with the keyboard in the lists
In the list, it could be nice to be able to go to a specific section of the list while typing a letter on the keyboard. For instance, typing “G” will scroll directly to the first element of the list which starts with the letter “G”. Not sure about the behaviour when there’s no matching item in the list.
Smart speaker integrations
i.e. AirPlay, Chromecast and Sonos support. Getting all 3 of these things working may be challenging, as they all have different API’s with varying levels of web app support. I don’t have a timeframe for making a start on this, but I hope to add this capability at some point down the line.
Search within an album or playlist
Add the ability to search/filter within an album or playlist to find specific tracks
Right Click Context Menu for Track Info
I would love to have the option to right click the tracks for More info overview (Things like below, that Plex offers out of the box). Duration 7:17 Bitrate 320 kbps Container MP3 Duration 7:17 File 01 - Marabu - Summer of 42.mp3 Size 16.77 MB Container MP3 Has Thumbnail 1 Codec MP3 Channels 2 Bitrate 320 kbps Album Gain -1.58 Album Peak 0.716919 Album Range 11.957145 Audio Channel Layout stereo Gain -1.58 Loudness -18.64 Lra 20.43 Peak 0.636932 Sampling Rate 44100 Hz Display Title MP3 (Stereo) Extended Display Title MP3 (Stereo) Edit Metadata Edit album Covers / Artist covers when right clicking artists / albums Not sure if possible, but if connected locally (see other request) it would be great to have an “open folder” option Thinks like “Add to Playlist” when a track is selected. If it is welcome, I would like to try to add these things if this is something that @Alex is interested in
In Progress
2Actively being built
Image for genres, moods and styles
I'd love to have a little image for all the album and artist genres, moods and styles. Even if it was a little png file that was a different color for each mood/style/genre and just overlayed the first album cover in the mix. I feel like it would really add nice aesthetic to those pages that feel very empty right now.
Artist Sort Order
Any way to sort artists by the "Sort Artist" field rather than the default Artist field? I have Yankovic, Weird Al for "Weird Al" Yankovic and that's how I would like to see artists sorted. Taken from https://www.reddit.com/r/chromatix/comments/1sgq5gr/artist_sort_order/

Linux app
Chromatix is bundled for macOS and Windows using Electron. It should also be possible to bundle the app for Linux, but I’m not a Linux user with any knowledge of the platform, and my first experiments building for Linux didn’t work. I think the ecosystem may be quite complex, requiring different type of builds for different Linux distros. I hope to pick this up again down the line to get this working, as it’s been requested by a few people.
Playlist management
Add, edit and remove playlists. Playlist management will require the implementation of various other UI features first, such as context menus and popup/modal windows, and a drag-and-drop interface for reordering items.
Full screen player
An optional full screen mode is intended to be added, roughly as per the attached design mockup.
Transcoding (ALAC Playback etc)
Just tried the app (mac & browser) and note that none of my lossless or hi-res ALAC files can be played … I get a playback error. I have tested with a few mp3 files and they play OK. Unfortunately, ~95% of my library is ALAC so the app doesn’t currently work for me. Any plans to support ALAC playback?
Jellyfin integration
As an alternative/addition to logging in with Plex, integration is planned with Jellyfin open source media server. Note that Jellyfin and Plex have slightly different features and provide slightly different data. Not all features from Plex will be supported with Jellyfin integration, and vice versa. There is currently no timeline for when this will be complete. It is in progress and partially working already, but there are a lot of updates required throughout the app to handle the differing capabilities of Jellyfin.
Add Plex Profile Switching
Add the ability to switch between Plex profiles for an account
Make scrollbars wider on Windows
Virtualised grid view
Virtualisation of long lists of content means that if there are a high number of entries, only the elements actually in view are rendered. Until virtualised grid view is implemented, users with large libraries with 1000’s of entries may see performance slowdowns when browsing grid views. Note that list views have already been updated to use virtualisation when rendering more than a certain number of items in one go. This isn’t a glamorous or exciting feature, but is essential for users with large libraries, and before wider promotion can be done for Chromatix. Chromatix is using Tanstack Virtual for virtualised rendering.
Collection management
Add the ability to manage Plex collections. Create a collection, edit a collection, delete a collection. Add and remove artists or albums from a collection.
